Site speed affects your organic Google rankings

Google updated its algorithm in June 2021, adding more criteria on which websites are assessed and ranked. Google’s update is called the ‘page experience update’, and it is designed to reward pages that offer a better page experience to users.

To do this, the algorithm will assess pages based on various ‘page experience signals’, which includes site speed.  Google analyses millions of websites every day. The better a website performs in terms of fast page speed and technical optimisation, the better chance it has to rank on the first page of Google results.

Other things that Google now takes into consideration regarding your website include: 

  • Mobile-friendliness

  • Safe browsing

  • HTTPS

  • No intrusive interstitials (pop-ups)

On top of the above, you will also need an SEO strategy to ensure your website is fully optimised to benefit from focusing on the above technical enhancements.
